Record-label mergers, corporate takeovers of radio and three generations worth of television are the main perpetrators behind the demise of the true American sounds. The independent label or renegade radio station doesn't seem to exist anymore. Nowadays, the music business is all about copying the latest style or trend. Sound has little to do with it.
